The India Meteorological Department has issued an alert for thunderstorms, rain and gusty winds in 32 districts of Uttar Pradesh on June 15, with wind speeds likely to reach 50 to 60 kmph. Pre-monsoon activity remains active across the state, and weather conditions are expected to remain favourable over the coming days.
Weather conditions have been changing across Uttar Pradesh over the past several days. Thunderstorms and light rainfall have provided relief from intense heat in many areas. The India Meteorological Department has issued a weather alert for 32 districts, warning of thunderstorms and rain accompanied by b winds.
The districts under alert include Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Baghpat, Saharanpur, Shamli, Bulandshahr, Mathura, Aligarh, Agra, Jhansi, Mahoba, Maharajganj, Gorakhpur, Deoria, Varanasi and Mirzapur, among others. Rainfall accompanied by b winds is likely in these areas. The department has advised residents to remain cautious during adverse weather conditions.
According to meteorologists, pre-monsoon activity has intensified in Uttar Pradesh due to an active western disturbance over Haryana and adjoining regions. Meteorologist Atul Singh said the monsoon has reached Bihar and is likely to enter Uttar Pradesh between June 17 and June 20 through Sonbhadra and Lalitpur.
With the arrival of the monsoon, rainfall activity may increase across several parts of the state. A decline in temperatures is expected, while the onset of the monsoon is also considered important for the agricultural sector as the sowing period for kharif crops approaches.
The weather department has forecast continued cloud cover across the state for the next three to four days. Many areas may remain cloudy on June 16, and increased humidity could make temperatures feel lower than normal. On June 17, weather conditions are expected to remain relatively clear, although b winds and light drizzle may occur at some locations.
Cloud cover is expected to persist on June 18, with rainfall likely in some areas. On June 19, several parts of the state may record rainfall ranging from light to heavy. The weather department said these changes could indicate increasing monsoon activity.
The weather department has also forecast below-normal rainfall in Uttar Pradesh during 2026. The state typically receives 820 to 840 mm of rainfall between June and September, but rainfall this year is estimated at 754 to 773 mm, around 8 per cent below average.
Experts said rainfall figures could change depending on the progress of the monsoon and the development of future weather systems. For now, pre-monsoon rainfall is continuing across most parts of the state.
