The final publication of the voter list under the SIR campaign in West Bengal will now be on February 14, 2026. BLOs will conduct door-to-door verification. Claims and objections can be registered from December 16, 2025, to January 15, 2026.
West Bengal: The Election Commission of India has revised the timeline for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign in West Bengal. In an order issued on Wednesday, the Commission stated that additional time is required for large-scale census work across the state and for the verification and rationalization of polling stations. For this reason, the final publication date has been changed from the previously scheduled date to February 14, 2026.
The purpose of this decision is to ensure that there are no errors in the voter list and that each citizen's data is correctly recorded and verified. The Election Commission has said that this change is necessary to ensure the proper functioning of polling stations in the state and the transparency of the voter list.
Booth Level Officers will go door-to-door
According to the revised schedule issued by the Election Commission, Booth Level Officers (BLO) will complete the ongoing enumeration by going door-to-door today, December 11, 2025. After this, the draft voter list will be published on December 16, 2025.
Following this process, citizens will be able to register their claims and objections between December 16, 2025, and January 15, 2026. The disposal of claims and objections and the special verification campaign will continue until February 7, 2026. During this time, the rationalization of polling stations will also be completed. This entire process will ensure that the new voter list is completely accurate and available to all.
BLO Security

The security of BLOs, or Booth Level Officers, has become a sensitive issue during the Special Intensive Revision campaign. On Tuesday, the Supreme Court issued notice to the Election Commission of India in this matter. The Court took serious note of the cases of threats and violence against BLOs in West Bengal and sought a response from the Commission.
A bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi said that BLOs are working under stress and pressure at the ground level due to the excessive workload in the SIR campaign. The court said that this is not just desk work. Officers have to go to every house for verification, prepare enumeration reports, and upload them. This pressure and stress are what they feel while working continuously.
Role of the SIR Campaign
The objective of the SIR campaign is to make the voter list completely accurate and up-to-date. Under this, the name, address, and identity of every citizen are checked. In addition, the rationalization of polling stations is also done so that there is no inconvenience during the election.
The Election Commission has stated that this process ensures transparency for all voters. It also reveals who is included in the voter list and who is not. This increases the fairness and credibility of the election.
Important Dates for Citizens
The Election Commission has given citizens sufficient time to register claims and objections to the voter list. The draft list will be published on December 16, 2025, and citizens can register claims or objections between December 16, 2025, and January 15, 2026.
The special verification campaign and the rationalization of polling stations will be completed by February 7, 2026. The final voter list will be released on February 14, 2026, after this date. Citizens are advised to check their documents and information and report any errors or discrepancies to the Commission in a timely manner.
