West Indies Level Series with 5-Wicket Victory Over Pakistan in Rain-Affected ODI

West Indies defeated Pakistan by 5 wickets in the second ODI played at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad, leveling the series 1-1. The rain-interrupted match was reduced to 37 overs per side.

Sports News: West Indies delivered an impressive performance in the second ODI against Pakistan, securing a 5-wicket victory. With this win, the three-match series is now tied at 1-1. Notably, this marks the first time in almost 6 years that West Indies have defeated Pakistan in an ODI. The last time West Indies defeated Pakistan was on May 31, 2019, during the World Cup.

DLS Comes to the Rescue in Rain-Affected Match

The second ODI was played at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad. Due to rain, the match was reduced to 37 overs per side. Batting first, Pakistan scored 171 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 37 overs. After the rain stopped, West Indies were set a revised target of 181 runs in 35 overs according to the DLS method. The host team achieved this target in 33.2 overs, losing 5 wickets and making a comeback in the series.

Pakistan, who started batting after losing the toss, had a decent start, but after the dismissal of Sam Ayub (37 runs) in the 9th over, the team's middle order collapsed. The score soon became 88 for 4 wickets. Babar Azam was unable to score in this match, while captain Mohammad Rizwan scored only 16 runs off 38 balls. Hasan Nawaz, the hero of the previous match, played an innings of 36 runs off 30 balls and helped the team reach a respectable score. Hussain Talat also contributed 31 runs.

West Indies' Hard-Fought but Successful Innings

Chasing the target, West Indies had a poor start. Top-order batsmen Brandon King (1 run), Evin Lewis (7 runs), and Keacy Carty (16 runs) returned to the pavilion cheaply. Captain Shai Hope tried to steady the team with a score of 32 runs. After that, Sherfane Rutherford and Roston Chase stabilized the innings. Rutherford scored 45 runs, and Chase remained unbeaten on 49 runs. Their partnership took the team to the target.

  • Pakistan's middle order continued to fail.
  • The half-century partnership between Rutherford and Chase turned the match in West Indies' favor.
  • The increased target under DLS after the rain put pressure on Pakistan.

This win was special for West Indies as they defeated Pakistan in an ODI after almost 6 years. The previous victory came in the 2019 World Cup. This performance has boosted the team's confidence, and now both teams are heading towards the decisive match of the series.
