WhatsApp to launch optional WhatsApp Plus subscription plan with additional features for Android and iOS users

WhatsApp is preparing to introduce an optional subscription plan called WhatsApp Plus for users on Android and iOS platforms. The plan will offer additional customization and chat management features while the platform’s basic messaging and calling services will remain free.

WhatsApp is set to launch a new subscription plan, WhatsApp Plus, for Android and iOS users aimed at providing a more personalised chatting experience. The plan will be optional, allowing users to continue using core services such as messaging, audio and video calls, and media sharing without a subscription.

Subscribers to the paid plan are expected to receive additional features, including expanded chat pinning, the ability to change app icons and colour themes, custom ringtones, and access to exclusive stickers.

Under the subscription plan, users will receive an expanded chat pinning option. At present, WhatsApp allows users to pin up to three chats, while subscribers may be able to pin up to 20 chats.

The plan may also allow users to customise app icons and tabs with up to 14 different styles. Custom ringtones, exclusive stickers, and interactive reactions are expected to provide additional personalisation options for chat interactions.

The company may add new features periodically based on user feedback, allowing the subscriber experience to receive updates over time.

WhatsApp has begun testing a notification waitlist system. Users who join the waitlist will receive a notification when the paid plan becomes available, allowing them to subscribe once it is released.

The company has not yet disclosed the subscription price or the official launch date. However, the rollout is expected to take place soon.

The WhatsApp Plus subscription will function as an optional upgrade, enabling users to access additional features while continuing to use the platform’s core functionality without payment.
