xAI Opens Grok 4 to All Users, Intensifying AI Competition

xAI has now made its new AI model, Grok 4, available to all users. Previously, it was only for premium customers. Free users can now also use its Auto and Expert modes.

Artificial Intelligence: In a significant move, Elon Musk's company xAI has opened its latest AI model, Grok 4, to all users globally. Previously, this model was limited to paid subscribers, but now free users can also benefit from it. This news has generated excitement among AI enthusiasts, as there are high expectations for Grok 4. Notably, this step comes just days after OpenAI released its GPT-5 model to the public, creating a new competition in the AI field.

What is Grok 4 and why is it special?

Grok 4 is xAI's latest and most advanced AI chatbot model, designed for conversational interactions. This model allows users to communicate in natural language and provides accurate answers to complex questions. Grok 4 has two special modes — Auto and Expert mode. Auto mode decides when to use additional resources to provide detailed answers, while Expert mode allows users to choose answers that are reasoned or deeply analytical.

Free users will have access to both of these modes, but the most powerful version of Grok 4, 'SuperGrok Heavy,' will remain exclusive to paid users. This model is capable of solving the most complex problems and has higher processing capabilities.

Global Expansion and Increased Rate Limits

xAI has announced that Grok 4 is now available to all users worldwide. Notably, for a limited time, free users will also receive 'generous usage limits' on this AI model, meaning they will be able to experience the model's capabilities without significant restrictions. This will increase the popularity of the AI model and allow more people to try it out.

This expansion follows Elon Musk's move a few days ago to make the Grok Imagine video generation feature freely available to users in the US. Grok Imagine allows users to create videos and images with the help of AI, although this feature is currently only available to US users.

What will users get?

Free users: Will have access to Grok 4's Auto and Expert modes, allowing them to receive smart and in-depth answers. However, they will not have access to SuperGrok Heavy. Also, users outside the US will not be able to benefit from image and video creation tools like Grok Imagine.

Paid users: Will benefit from all models and features, as well as higher rate limits, allowing them to ask more questions and receive better service.

Musk's New Revenue Model: Advertising

Recently, Elon Musk stated that a new revenue stream is being developed for Grok — advertising. So far, Grok's revenue has come from subscriptions and API services, but considering the expense of costly GPU resources, the company is now planning to display ads in the chatbot.

Musk mentioned that advertisements will be included in Grok's responses and suggestions, but it was not clarified how these ads will appear and whether users will be informed with clear labels or not. This move is considered important for strengthening xAI financially.

Increasing Competition in the AI Field

xAI's move to release Grok 4, following OpenAI's recent release of GPT-5 to all registered users, reflects the growing competition in AI technology. Now users have more options and can choose an AI model according to their needs. It is clear that the number of AI models and their capabilities will increase in the future, leading to better technological development and user experience.
