Yadav and Mayawati Demand Transparency in 2027 Caste Census

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and BSP supremo Mayawati have demanded transparency from the central government regarding the 2027 caste census. Both leaders expressed concerns about public interest and appealed for accurate data.

UP Politics: The debate surrounding the caste census has intensified in Uttar Pradesh's political landscape. Both Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati have demanded transparency and honesty from the central government on this issue. The controversy resurfaced after the central government issued a notification for Census 2027 on June 16, 2025.

Akhilesh Yadav's Distrust in the Census

SP chief Akhilesh Yadav clearly stated his distrust in the data provided by the BJP government. He alleged that a government capable of concealing facts even in religious events like Kumbh Mela cannot be trusted on serious matters like the caste census and voter lists. Yadav advised his workers to remain vigilant and keep a close watch on the data.

Mayawati Also Expresses Concerns

On the other hand, BSP chief Mayawati also demanded that the caste census be conducted with complete transparency and honesty by the central government. She wrote on the social media platform X that the caste census process, stalled since the Congress regime, has now begun and should be completed on time and with honesty.

Mayawati Alerts BSP Organization

Mayawati clarified that she is continuously preparing party workers through small meetings to alert the party organization. A recent BSP meeting in Purvanchal discussed strengthening the party organization and its base. She also emphasized focusing on the Bihar Assembly election strategy.

Background of the Caste Census

The demand for a caste census in India has been long-standing. The last such count was conducted in 1931. Advocates of social justice, particularly regional parties, consider the caste census as a basis for ensuring social and political representation.

The 2021 census was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The central government has now issued a notification for 2027, but a sense of distrust among political parties persists.
