Yastika Bhatia Out of ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 Due to Knee Injury; Uma Chhetri Replaces Her

The Indian Women's cricket team has suffered a major blow ahead of the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025. The team's experienced wicketkeeper-batter, Yastika Bhatia, has been ruled out of the entire tournament due to a knee injury.

Sports News: The Indian Women's cricket team has faced a significant setback as wicketkeeper-batter Yastika Bhatia has been ruled out of the Women's World Cup due to a knee injury. Furthermore, she will also not be part of the ODI series against Australia. The BCCI has included wicketkeeper-batter Uma Chhetri in the team in her place.

The Board informed that Yastika sustained the injury during a preparatory camp held in Visakhapatnam, due to which she will be unable to participate in this prestigious tournament.

Yastika Bhatia Ruled Out of Entire Tournament Due to Injury

As per the official statement released by the BCCI, Yastika suffered a knee injury during a preparatory camp in Visakhapatnam. The medical team, after scans and examination, has advised her a long period of rest. This is the reason she has not only been ruled out of the Women's World Cup but will also not be able to play in the upcoming ODI series against Australia.

The BCCI stated, "The Board's medical team is closely monitoring Yastika Bhatia's recovery, and we expect her to return to full fitness soon."

Uma Chhetri Gets a Big Opportunity

In Yastika's absence, Uma Chhetri has been included in the India squad. Uma Chhetri, hailing from Assam, will represent India in a major competition like the ICC Women's World Cup for the first time. Although she has received this opportunity unexpectedly, she has been a part of the India A team for some time now. This selection means Uma will no longer be able to participate in the practice match for the India A team. Her entire focus will now be on the World Cup and the Australia series with the senior team.

Uma Chhetri has played 7 T20 International matches so far, but her batting record has not been very impressive.

  • She has scored only 37 runs in four innings.
  • Her highest score has been 24.
  • Her strike rate is below 90.

India's Upcoming Schedule

The Indian Women's team will play a three-match ODI series against Australia starting September 14 in Mullanpur (Chandigarh). This series will be crucial for the team's World Cup preparations. From September 14 onwards, the Australia series (3 ODIs) will be followed by two practice matches in Bengaluru. Team India will face co-hosts Sri Lanka in the opening match of the tournament on September 30 in Guwahati.
