Youth Dies in Jammu Encounter: Drug Smuggling Suspect or Victim of Unlawful Police Action?

On Thursday, July 24th, a youth died in an encounter between police and suspected drug smugglers in the Mandal area of the Satwari police station jurisdiction in Jammu. Another individual has been taken into custody. The deceased has been identified as Parvez. According to reports, police received a tip-off regarding drug trafficking, following which the team began pursuing the suspects. During the pursuit, police were fired upon, and they returned fire.

Parvez was critically injured by the gunfire and was immediately taken to Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu for treatment, where he died. Another suspect was taken into custody from the scene. Senior police officers arrived at the scene after the encounter and initiated an investigation into the entire matter. The police state that the action was taken entirely based on information and the situation.

Protests and Outrage Outside the Hospital

As soon as the news of Parvez's death reached his family and local residents, a large number of people gathered outside GMC Jammu hospital and started protesting. The atmosphere became tense during the demonstration, and there was chaos. The family alleges that Parvez was innocent and was killed in a fake encounter.

The protesters have demanded a judicial inquiry into the matter and stated that the police action was completely biased and unlawful. Additional security forces have been deployed in the hospital premises to control the situation.

Police and Family Face-to-Face

After the incident, the police and the family of the deceased are now face-to-face. On one hand, the police are calling it part of an operation, while on the other hand, the family is calling it murder. Considering the sensitivity of the matter, the investigating officers are gathering facts from every angle. In the coming days, it will become clear whether the death in the encounter was truly a police action or whether there is any truth in the claims of the family.
