Allahabad High Court Grants Relief to SP MP Ziaur Rahman Barq in Sambhal Violence Case

Samajwadi Party MP Ziaur Rahman Barq has received a major relief from the Allahabad High Court in the Sambhal violence case. The court has stayed further action by the lower court and the police charge sheet against him. The state government has been directed to file a reply within three weeks. The next hearing will be on September 9.

Uttar Pradesh: The Allahabad High Court has temporarily stayed legal proceedings against Samajwadi Party MP Ziaur Rahman Barq in connection with the Sambhal violence case. The court has sought a response from the state government on the petition in this matter and has scheduled the next hearing for September 9. The charge sheet named a total of 23 accused, including Barq, as well as Jama Masjid President Zafar Ali. The stay on investigation and action has brought a temporary halt to the case.

23 Accused, Including MP, in Charge Sheet

Following the violence on November 24, 2024, during a survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal, the SIT filed a charge sheet in June of this year. It implicated Samajwadi Party MP Ziaur Rahman Barq and 22 other individuals. The clashes during the violence resulted in the deaths of four people, and a mob set several vehicles on fire.

12 FIRs and the Seriousness of the Allegations

In connection with the disruption, violence, and arson during the survey, 12 FIRs were registered, seven by the police and five by the public. MP Barq is accused of conspiracy under 335/24. Several miscreants have already been sent to jail in this case. The High Court's decision has temporarily paused the investigation and related actions.
