Delhi to Implement System for Faster Relief to Accident and Crime Victims

Victims of road accidents and criminal incidents in Delhi will now receive faster relief. Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena has approved a new system under which all police stations in Delhi will be directly connected to nearby hospitals. The aim of this step is to eliminate the delay between medical and legal action in emergency situations.

Response Time to Decrease in Cases of Accidents and Crime

Under the new system, the police stations of the capital will be linked to those hospitals where medico-legal cases (MLC) and post-mortem examinations (PME) can be completed quickly and efficiently. This will provide immediate treatment and judicial assistance to victims of road accidents, sexual offenses, and other serious cases.

The administration says that the networking between police stations and hospitals is being prepared in a systematic and organized manner so that the response time is reduced in any situation and the proceedings are effective.

Improvement is Being Made Under Three New Laws

This entire plan has been prepared under Section 194(3) of the recently implemented Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS) 2023. Delhi Police, the Department of Home Affairs, and the Department of Health and Family Welfare (GNCTD) have worked together on this system.

Delhi Police had submitted a list of designated hospitals for police stations to the health department, after which an expert committee recommended that there should be direct contact between police stations and hospitals. This will prevent delays in treatment and legal procedures like MLC and post-mortem will also be completed on time.

The Department of Home Affairs evaluated the practicality and impact of this proposal, and the Law Department suggested necessary amendments after legal review. It is now being officially implemented.

Delhi to Become a Health-Justice Model

This initiative is leading the capital towards a model where the coordination of health and law and order will help in providing quick relief to the victims. This step will strengthen the coordination between the police and medical systems and expedite the process of justice.
