Indian Women's Cricket Team Dominates England in T20I with Record Victory

The Indian women's team inflicted their biggest defeat ever on England in T20I history. Led by Smriti Mandhana, the Indian team began the five-match T20I series with a bang on Saturday, June 28th, recording a stunning 97-run victory.

Sports News: The new sensation of the Indian women's cricket team, Sri Charani, created such a sensation on English soil that everyone was stunned. This 20-year-old left-arm orthodox spinner, hailing from the small village of Erramalle in Andhra Pradesh, emerged as the new star of the cricket world by taking 4 wickets in her very first international T20 match. In the first match of the five-match T20 series played against England on Saturday, India registered a massive victory by 97 runs, in which Sri Charani's deadly bowling broke the back of the English team.

While the nation is buzzing with the talk of Smriti Mandhana's spectacular century, Sri Charani's performance with the ball in her first international match has clearly painted a picture of the future. Under the captaincy of Smriti Mandhana, the Indian team defeated England on its home ground, and Sri Charani's role was the most crucial in this victory.

Journey from Village Soil to the International Stage

Born on August 4, 2004, in the village of Erramalle in the YAR-Kadappa district, Nallapureddy Sri Charani had also played badminton and kho-kho in her childhood. But her passion for cricket ignited when she watched the matches of Yuvraj Singh. Inspired by Yuvraj's all-round game and Smriti Mandhana's batting, Sri Charani mastered both the ball and the bat.

Her uncle, Kishore Kumar Reddy, initially played a significant role in teaching her cricket. Even amidst limited resources and the responsibilities of a common family, she never gave up. Her father, Chandrasekhar Reddy, is an ordinary employee at the Rayalaseema Thermal Power Project, but he fully supported his daughter's dreams.

She has also made a splash in WPL

In the Women's Premier League (2025) auction, Delhi Capitals bought Sri Charani for 55 lakh rupees. In her debut match itself, she grabbed everyone's attention by taking two wickets in an over against Royal Challengers Bangalore. After this, she put her team in a b position by taking two wickets in the final against Mumbai.

In domestic cricket, by taking 5 wickets against India B in the Senior Women's Multi-Day Challenger Trophy, she proved that her talent is not limited to the limited-overs format only. She took 9 wickets in three matches throughout the tournament and demonstrated her usefulness.

She has also stepped into ODIs

Sri Charani entered the Indian senior team in April 2025 in the ODI tri-series against Sri Lanka and South Africa. On April 27th, she made her ODI debut against Sri Lanka and won the trust of the team management by taking 6 wickets in 5 matches. She got another opportunity for the England tour and created a sensation in her T20 debut.

The debut cap she received from Sneha Rana was a special moment for her. Sri Charani dreams of playing an all-rounder role on big stages like Yuvraj Singh and wants to become an important link in the team in the upcoming World Cup.
