Today, July 1st, Jammu and Kashmir's Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha took a significant step for families affected by terrorism. He announced the establishment of a special cell within the LG secretariat to better understand and address the problems and concerns of such families.
Jammu and Kashmir: Terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir has devastated the lives of thousands of families for decades. To provide solace to these affected families, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha made a major announcement on Monday. During a high-level meeting with families affected by terrorism in Srinagar, LG Manoj Sinha stated that a special cell would be created in the LG secretariat and the Chief Secretary's office to promptly resolve the problems and grievances of terror-affected families.
The LG stated that this cell will assist families who have lost loved ones in terrorist attacks but have yet to receive justice. Furthermore, district magistrates and senior police officers were instructed to reopen old cases that were deliberately suppressed or never acted upon fairly.
Bringing the Culprits to Justice
LG Manoj Sinha unequivocally stated that the perpetrators who have been roaming freely for years will now be brought to justice. He also wrote on social media, "Every possible assistance will be provided to the families affected by terrorism. The criminals who have been roaming freely for decades will be presented in court and justice will be delivered." Furthermore, the LG also directed that properties and lands seized by terrorists or their supporters be returned to the affected families.
Manoj Sinha also instructed the officials to prioritize the eligible members of terror-affected families for government jobs. Moreover, instructions have been given to remove false FIRs filed in the names of the family members. The LG sternly stated that it is the administration's responsibility to identify those who were previously involved in terrorism and are now working in any government department. Strict action will be taken against such people so that supporters of terror do not thrive in the government system.
Assurance of Justice to Affected Families
On Sunday (June 29th), LG Manoj Sinha met with several terror-affected families. He said that the suffering of these families had been ignored for decades, but now the situation will change. The LG said that the voices of hundreds of families who were destroyed due to Pakistan-sponsored terrorism were suppressed. Before 2019, funerals were held for terrorists, but the deaths of ordinary Kashmiris were forgotten. This will not happen now. The government is committed to delivering justice to every family affected by terrorism.
This announcement by Manoj Sinha is being seen as a b message in Kashmir. In fact, there have been long-standing allegations in the valley that terrorists were given the status of martyrs, but there was no voice for the innocent people killed by them. This step by the LG shows that the government is now serious about changing this system.
The formation of the special cell is expected to make it easier for terror-affected families to register their complaints, and no case will be left unresolved.
