BJP leader Vijay Singh and Pramod Singh have been sentenced to life imprisonment in the 2000 murder case of Janardan Singh in Jaunpur. The court also imposed a fine of ₹25,000 each on them.

UP: The court delivered a significant verdict on Tuesday in the 25-year-old murder case of Janardan Singh in Jaunpur district, Uttar Pradesh. In this highly publicized case, BJP leader Vijay Singh Vidyarthi and Pramod Singh were found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of ₹25,000 each on both the accused.

Murder took place on October 3, 2000

The incident dates back to October 3, 2000. Janardan Singh was shot dead in broad daylight at Itauri Bazaar in the Saraykhwaja police station area. In this case, the complainant, Aniruddha Singh, informed the police in his written complaint that his brother, Janardan Singh, was returning home from the market with his nephew when motorcycle-borne assailants stopped them and opened fire.

Threats were issued before the murder

A few days before the murder, Janardan Singh's nephew, Devendra Singh, was threatened by a youth named Ajay Singh. He had warned that if anyone interfered with his work, they would be shot. Following this, a panchayat (village council) was also convened. Upon learning about the panchayat, Ajay Singh and his brother Vijay Singh became angry and planned the murder.

How the murder happened

On the day of the incident, when Janardan Singh was returning from the market on a motorcycle with his nephew, Vijay Singh Vidyarthi, a resident of Sonikpur village, along with Ajay Singh and Pramod Singh, a resident of Saraykhwaja, surrounded him on the way. Vijay and Pramod held Janardan and, shouting, said, "Finish him off today". After this, Ajay Singh pulled out a pistol and shot Janardan Singh.

The sound of the gunshot caused chaos in the market. The attackers intimidated the people present at the scene, warning that anyone who approached would also be killed. After this, all three accused fled on the same motorcycle. Another motorcycle was left at the crime scene.

Ajay Singh had already been sentenced

There were three accused in this murder case - Ajay Singh, Vijay Singh Vidyarthi, and Pramod Singh. The main accused, Ajay Singh, had already been sentenced to life imprisonment by the court. The court had separated the files of Vijay Singh and Pramod Singh due to their prolonged absconding.

Now Vijay Singh and Pramod are also sentenced to life imprisonment

On Tuesday, the Additional Sessions Judge Ranjit Kumar's court summoned the files of the two absconding accused and conducted a hearing. Based on all the witnesses and evidence, the court found Vijay Singh Vidyarthi and Pramod Singh guilty and sentenced them to life imprisonment. Additionally, a fine of ₹25,000 each was also imposed on both.

The convicts were sent to jail

After the sentencing, Vijay Singh and Pramod Singh were sent to the District Jail under police custody. This decision of the court is considered a relief for the public of Jaunpur and the family of the deceased, as they had been waiting for justice for 25 years.
