Political turmoil has erupted over a statement made by Dattatreya Hosabale, Sah-Karyawah of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), concerning the Preamble to the Constitution. Now, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo and former Chief Minister Mayawati has also responded to the matter.
UP Politics: Following senior RSS leader Dattatreya Hosabale's advocacy for removing the words "socialist" and "secular" from the Preamble to the Constitution, political circles have witnessed a b reaction. On this issue, Mayawati, the head of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, has also issued a sharp response.
Mayawati stated in clear terms that the original spirit of the Indian Constitution is reflected in the Preamble, and it should not be tampered with in any way. She said that although there have been many unnecessary changes in the Constitution from time to time, changing the Preamble is an attack on the basic spirit of the country, which will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Described Changes to the Constitution's Preamble as Dangerous
Mayawati said that the Constitution is a symbol of the thoughts and hard work of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar, and any tampering with it will never be accepted by the Dalit, backward, and poor sections of society. She stated, "These are not just words but determine the direction and philosophy of Indian democracy." The BSP supremo targeted both the BJP and the Congress, saying that both parties have adopted a double standard regarding the Constitution. Mayawati said that both parties have one thing in their hearts and another on their tongues, and they play with the basic sentiments of the Constitution.
Also Attacked Politics in the Name of Language
While discussing the issue of the Constitution, Mayawati also expressed concern over the politics being played in different states of the country in the name of language. She said that the politics in the name of language in many states of the country is not right, and all languages should be given equal respect. She appealed to governments and political parties not to try to divide people on the basis of language and regional identity.
Mayawati also demanded clarification from the Election Commission on the controversy related to the voter list in Bihar. She said that the Election Commission should win the trust of the people and maintain transparency. She stated that any kind of suspicion in the election process would be dangerous for the country's democracy.
If Anti-Constitutional Face Doesn't Change, We Will Take to the Streets - Mayawati
Mayawati warned that if anyone tries to tamper with the Preamble to the Constitution, her party will not remain silent. "If these anti-constitutional faces do not change, we will have to come out and raise the voice of the people," Mayawati said unequivocally. She also expressed concern about the safety of women. Mayawati said that the situation of women in states like Bengal is not good, their safety is at risk there, and the governments are only putting up a show.
In fact, RSS Sah-Sarkaryawah Dattatreya Hosabale had said on June 27 in a program in Delhi that the words "socialist" and "secular" should be removed from the Preamble to the Constitution. His argument was that these words, added by the 42nd Amendment during the Emergency in 1975, are artificial and have no relevance in Indian culture and traditions. He said that these words have distorted the real spirit of the Constitution.
Atmosphere May Heat Up Again in Politics
After Dattatreya Hosabale's statement, the opposition parties have got a big issue. Especially after Mayawati's b statement, it is believed that in the coming days, the opposition unity and attack on the Preamble to the Constitution may intensify. Mayawati's comment makes it clear that the BSP will raise its voice across the country on this constitutional issue and may make it an important election issue in the upcoming assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
