Monsoon to Bring More Rain and Humidity to North India; Red Alert in Himachal

Intermittent rain continues in most areas of Delhi-NCR. Despite the rainfall, people haven't found much relief from the humid heat.

Weather Forecast: While monsoon rains are continuously occurring in Delhi-NCR, people are still not getting relief from the humid heat. Several areas experienced intermittent rainfall on Sunday as well, but despite the temperature dropping due to increased humidity in the atmosphere, the sticky heat continues to cause discomfort. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), light to moderate rain is expected in Delhi-NCR on Monday as well.

Delhi has been experiencing overcast skies for the past few days, with light rain in between, but the humidity level increases when the sun shines brightly. Meteorologists say that this type of weather will continue in several states of North India for the next week.

Monsoon Likely to Remain Active in North India for a Week

The IMD has said that moderate to heavy rainfall may continue for the next few days in most areas of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh. There is also a possibility of heavy rain with thunderstorms in many parts of Bengal. According to experts, the low-pressure system formed in the Bay of Bengal has activated the monsoon across North India. This will not only increase rainfall but could also lead to problems such as waterlogging, landslides, and rising water levels in rivers.

Situation Serious in Himachal, Red Alert in Three Districts

The heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh shows no sign of stopping. On Sunday, the IMD issued a red alert for Kangra, Mandi, and Sirmaur districts, warning of excessive rainfall. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in several places in these districts in the next 24 hours. An orange alert has also been issued for the other seven districts, excluding the tribal areas of Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti. Since the monsoon entered the state on June 20th, 74 people have died in rain-related incidents. Of these, 47 deaths were due to disasters like cloudbursts, floods, and landslides.

On Sunday, a cloudburst occurred in the Swad Nala near Shilbhadani village in the Padhar area of Mandi district, damaging connecting roads and small bridges. Fortunately, there were no reports of casualties.

Heavy Rain Alert in Bengal as well

The weather is expected to deteriorate in West Bengal in the next few days. According to the IMD, a new low-pressure area is forming in the Gangetic region, which could lead to heavy to very heavy rainfall in the districts of Purulia, Jhargram, and Paschim Medinipur. Rainfall of 7 to 20 centimeters is expected here. In addition, West Bardhaman, Purba Medinipur, South 24 Parganas, and Bankura districts are forecast to receive 7 to 11 centimeters of rainfall. A heavy rainfall alert has also been issued for the sub-Himalayan region, such as Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar, until July 10th.

When Will Relief Come from Heat and Humidity in Delhi?

Relief does not seem likely in Delhi-NCR at the moment. Meteorologists have said that the humid heat will persist until there is continuous heavy rainfall. After the rain, the temperature does drop due to increased humidity in the atmosphere, but people feel uncomfortable due to the moisture.

Although there is a possibility of light to moderate rain in Delhi on Monday, which could make the weather pleasant for some time, there will be no complete relief from the heat for now.
