Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the former captain of the Indian cricket team, known as 'Captain Cool' for his calm and composed demeanor, has now taken steps to legally register this moniker.

Dhoni, who maintained his composure on the field and kept a smile even in difficult situations, has applied for trademark registration for this nickname. According to reports, Dhoni filed this application on June 5th, which was officially published in the Trademark Journal on June 16th.

The status on the Trade Marks Registry portal is stated as 'Accepted and Advertised'. Dhoni's trademark application has been filed under the category of sports training, sports coaching, and related services.

'Captain Cool' was bestowed by fans

Mahendra Singh Dhoni was not given this nickname by any marketing agency, but his fans started calling him 'Captain Cool' because of his calm and balanced decisions on the field. Dhoni, considered one of India's most successful captains, has now taken steps to convert it into a legal right so that it cannot be commercially used in the future without his permission.

According to sources close to Dhoni, he is planning to promote sports academies, coaching centers, and other sports activities with this name in the future, for which having a trademark was necessary.

Farewell to International Cricket after 2019

Mahendra Singh Dhoni played his last international match in the 2019 World Cup semi-final, when India lost to New Zealand and was eliminated from the tournament. After this, Dhoni did not play any international matches and officially announced his retirement on August 15, 2020. However, his presence in the IPL has been equally talked about. Dhoni made a comeback as an uncapped player for Chennai Super Kings in the 2025 season and also took over the captaincy of the team in the absence of captain Ruturaj Gaikwad.

The only Indian captain to win three ICC titles

Mahendra Singh Dhoni's captaincy record has been very impressive. Under his leadership, Team India won the 2007 T20 World Cup, the 2011 ODI World Cup, and the 2013 Champions Trophy.
