A heart-wrenching incident has come to light in the Barmer district of Rajasthan. On Tuesday evening, four members of a family committed suicide in the Undu village of the Shiv police station area. The deceased include Shivlal (35), his wife Kavita (32), and their two young children (8 and 6 years old). The bodies of all four were found in a water tank in the village, sending shockwaves throughout the area.
Family Dispute Led to Suicide
The tragic incident is reportedly due to an ongoing family dispute over a house. The deceased, Shivlal, used to work in Jaipur doing handicraft work and had recently returned to the village to arrange admissions for his children. According to reports, Shivlal wanted to build a separate house under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Prime Minister's Housing Scheme), but other family members, especially his mother and younger brother, were against this decision.
Shivlal's in-laws have alleged that Shivlal took this horrific step due to mental pressure and domestic discord. Moreover, Shivlal had written a suicide note on June 29, but did not commit suicide that day. On Tuesday, when only Shivlal, his wife, and children were at home, they jumped into the water tank and ended their lives.
Switched-Off Phones and Open Tank Provided Clues
On Tuesday, Shivlal and his wife had switched off their mobile phones. When the younger brother called repeatedly and didn't get an answer, he asked a neighbor to go and check. When the neighbor went to the house, the door was closed, but the lid of the water tank nearby was open. When they looked into the tank, they found the bodies of all four floating in it. The police were immediately informed.
The Shiv police station reached the spot and the bodies were taken out. The bodies were sent to the mortuary of the Community Health Center (CHC) in Bhiyad for postmortem. Although the in-laws were informed at night, they reached the spot late, due to which the bodies were kept in the tank overnight.
Suicide Note Revealed the Truth
Barmer SP Narendra Singh Meena said that a suicide note was recovered from the deceased Shivlal, in which family stress was cited as the reason for the suicide. The suicide note stated that he was being prevented from building a house and that he was very upset with the atmosphere at home.
Based on a complaint from the in-laws, the police have registered a case against Shivlal's younger brother and mother. Currently, the police are investigating the matter from every angle and evidence is being collected to confirm the allegations. The police are also investigating whether there were any other reasons for the suicide.
Mourning in the Village
There is an atmosphere of mourning in Undu village after the incident. A large number of villagers gathered to pay their last respects to the four bodies. The police have recorded the statements of the family members and have started further legal proceedings along with investigating the suicide note.
This case once again highlights the horror of domestic stress and family disputes. The police say that the culprits will be arrested soon and the truth will be brought to light.
