An encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces in the Basantgarh area of Udhampur district in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday morning, prompting security agencies to go on alert throughout the region. The encounter began around 8:30 AM and has been temporarily halted due to adverse weather conditions during the operation. Meanwhile, security has been further heightened in the context of the Amarnath Yatra.
Information on the presence of terrorists for a year
IGP Jammu Frontier, Bheem Sen Tuti, stated that the agencies had information about the location of the terrorists involved in the encounter in Basantgarh for the past year. He mentioned that the operation would resume as soon as the weather cleared. He assured that the security forces were fully prepared to deal with any potential threats.
Special Focus on Amarnath Yatra
Regarding the Amarnath Yatra, IGP Tuti said that more preparations have been made this time to ensure the safety of the pilgrims. He informed that 30 additional paramilitary companies have been deployed this year compared to last year. Security has been strengthened on the route from Jammu to Lakhanpur. Additional troops have also been deployed on the highway to provide a seamless travel experience for the pilgrims.
Travel with the Group
The IGP appealed to the pilgrims to travel to Srinagar with the designated groups under registration instead of traveling alone. He said that some routes were previously considered vulnerable, but this time, security will be robust in all those areas as well.
He also said that the police and security forces are fully prepared to deal with every situation and that every possible effort is being made to make the Amarnath Yatra completely safe and peaceful.
