New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has formally announced Atishi as the Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Legislative Assembly. This important decision was taken at a meeting of the party's legislative wing, attended by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and other top leaders. The AAP held this significant meeting today (February 23rd), a day before the commencement of the Delhi Assembly's budget session. At this meeting, Atishi was unanimously elected as the Leader of the Legislative Party.

Gopal Rai, a senior party leader and MLA from Babarpur, announced the decision, stating, "This decision was taken considering Atishi's leadership capabilities and her ability to connect with the people. She will perform the role of the Leader of the Opposition with full force."

Why Atishi?

Atishi, the MLA from Kalkaji, was previously known for her outstanding performance as the Education Minister in the Delhi government. She implemented numerous initiatives to improve the education system and gave Delhi's government schools a new identity. Furthermore, she achieved a significant victory in the recent Assembly elections, defeating senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ramesh Bidhuri.

Unanimous Decision at the AAP Legislature Party Meeting

Sanjeev Jha proposed Atishi's name at the AAP legislature party meeting, where Sandeep Pathak served as an observer overseeing the process. All MLAs unanimously approved the proposal. The meeting also included detailed discussions on the upcoming Delhi Assembly session and the opposition's agenda.

Atishi to be Aggressive Against the BJP Government

Even after the change in power in Delhi, the Aam Aadmi Party is fully prepared to play the role of the opposition. Atishi questioned the newly formed BJP government's first cabinet meeting in Delhi, highlighting the unfulfilled promise of providing ₹2500 per month to women. She has written to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta requesting a meeting with AAP MLAs and seeking clarity on the Delhi government's plans.

Party Leaders' Comments on Atishi's New Role

Gopal Rai said, "Atishi has always been fearless and outspoken. Her role as Leader of the Opposition will not be limited to questioning the government; she will also highlight the people's issues and hold the government accountable." This is a significant decision for AAP workers and supporters, as the party needed b leadership after the defeat of senior leaders like Manish Sisodia and Arvind Kejriwal. Atishi's appointment is expected to provide the party with a new direction and strength.
