Major Fraud Exposed in Delhi's Women's Pension Scheme
A significant fraud has been uncovered in Delhi's pension scheme for single women. Recent verification revealed that over 25,000 ineligible women had been receiving pensions for years. This scam went undetected for years due to a lack of timely verification during the previous government's tenure.
Verification Initiated by the Department of Women and Child Development
In October of last year, the Department of Women and Child Development launched a verification process for pension beneficiaries. To date, 2.28 lakh women's data has been examined, with 25,000 found ineligible. The department reports that their pensions have been stopped, and the verification of remaining beneficiaries is ongoing.
Eligibility Criteria for the Pension
This scheme is designed for widows, divorced women, or single women with an annual income below ₹100,000. However, the verification process revealed that many women, having remarried or exceeding the income limit, were still receiving benefits.
Eligible Women Denied Pensions for Two Months
Due to the process of identifying ineligible women, eligible beneficiaries were also denied pensions for two months. Authorities now state that eligible beneficiaries are receiving their pensions regularly again.
