Last Updated: 2 day ago

India accelerates relief efforts in Myanmar after earthquake under Operation Brahma. A medical team and 60 tons of supplies were sent via C-17 aircraft; the Navy and NDRF are also active.

Earthquake Warning: A 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar on Friday, causing widespread devastation. Over 1600 people have died, and thousands more are injured. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the quake, centered near Mandalay, occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers. Local authorities warn the death toll may rise.

Earthquake Energy Equivalent to 334 Atomic Bombs

According to geologist Jess Phoenix, the devastating earthquake released energy equivalent to the explosion of 334 atomic bombs. Scientists attribute the quake to the collision of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, increasing the likelihood of aftershocks for months to come.

India Extends Helping Hand

Following the earthquake in Myanmar, India has accelerated relief operations under 'Operation Brahma'. Two Indian Air Force C-17 aircraft delivered a 118-member medical team and 60 tons of relief supplies. These supplies include essential items such as blankets, tarpaulins, hygiene kits, solar lamps, food packets, and kitchen sets. Two Indian Navy ships, INS Satpura and INS Savitri, have also arrived at the Yangon port.

China also sends aid team

In addition to India, China has sent a 37-member disaster management team to assist Myanmar. This team is utilizing advanced technology, including earthquake early warning systems and drones, to aid in relief efforts.

Myanmar Government Statement: Situation Extremely Grave

The Myanmar military government reported that the earthquake has caused over 1600 deaths and more than 2400 injuries. Roads, bridges, and other infrastructure in several cities have been damaged, hindering relief efforts. Rescue operations are ongoing, but access to affected areas remains difficult due to the challenging conditions.
