Sports News: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) inflicted a crushing 50-run defeat on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at their home ground, the MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk), in the ninth match of IPL 2025. This historic victory marked RCB's first win at Chepauk against CSK in 17 years, avenging a long-standing losing streak. Their last victory at Chepauk against Chennai came during the 2008 IPL season.

RCB's Powerful Start

Batting first after losing the toss, RCB posted a challenging 196/7. English batsman Phil Salt played a blistering innings of 32 runs, partnering with Virat Kohli for a 45-run opening stand. Salt was dismissed by Noor Ahmad. Devdutt Padikkal contributed 27 runs before being bowled by R. Ashwin. Virat Kohli, however, couldn't find his rhythm, scoring 31 runs before falling to Noor Ahmad.

Rajat Patidar's Explosive Half-Century

He steadied the innings during a crucial phase, guiding RCB to a substantial total. In the final over, Tim David smashed three consecutive sixes against Sam Curran, propelling the score to 196.

Hazlewood's Havoc, CSK's Dismal Start

Chasing 197, Chennai Super Kings had a disastrous start. Josh Hazlewood struck twice in the second over, removing Rahul Tripathi (5) and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (0), putting CSK on the back foot. Deepak Hooda (4) also fell to Bhuvneshwar Kumar. CSK lost three wickets in the powerplay itself.

MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja tried to salvage the situation for CSK. Dhoni scored a quickfire 30 off 16 balls, including three fours and two sixes, while Jadeja contributed 25 runs. However, by then, the match was firmly in RCB's grasp. In a dominant bowling performance, Josh Hazlewood took three wickets, while Yash Dayal and Liam Livingstone claimed two wickets each, effectively extinguishing CSK's hopes. Bhuvneshwar Kumar also chipped in with a wicket, sealing CSK's defeat.

Chepauk's Fortress Breached

With this victory, RCB ended their 17-year losing streak at Chepauk. This defeat is particularly stinging for Chennai Super Kings as they suffered a one-sided loss on their home ground. RCB registered their second consecutive win, while CSK faced their first defeat of the season.

This victory showcased RCB's b intentions in IPL 2025. Defeating Chennai in their own fortress significantly boosted the team's confidence.
