Sanju Samson Out as Rajasthan Royals Captain for Initial IPL 2025 Matches
Last Updated: 12 hour ago

Rajasthan Royals (RR) have suffered a major setback ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Regular captain Sanju Samson will be unable to lead the team in the initial matches due to a recent surgery requiring him to relinquish the captaincy.

Sports News: A significant blow for Rajasthan Royals fans before IPL 2025! Reports indicate that Sanju Samson will not captain Rajasthan Royals for a few matches. However, this is not a permanent change, only for a limited number of games. A decision on his replacement has almost been finalized. This news could be a considerable setback for Rajasthan Royals supporters just before the start of the new IPL 2025 season.

Sanju Samson's Injury a Cause for Concern

Sanju Samson sustained an injury during the Test series between India and England in February. A delivery from England's fast bowler Jofra Archer struck his finger, necessitating surgery. Although he has joined Rajasthan Royals for IPL 2025, questions arose regarding his ability to handle both wicket-keeping and captaincy responsibilities.

According to a PTI report, Sanju Samson will be part of the team as an impact player for the first three matches. As per IPL rules, an impact player cannot be the captain, as they are not present on the field for the entire match. Therefore, Rajasthan Royals have decided to appoint Riyan Parag as captain.

Rajasthan Royals' Initial Matches

Rajasthan Royals will commence their IPL 2025 campaign on March 23rd against Sunrisers Hyderabad. This match will be played in Hyderabad at 3:30 PM. Subsequently, the team will face Kolkata Knight Riders in Guwahati on March 26th at 7:30 PM. Their third match will be against Chennai Super Kings on March 30th in Guwahati at 7:30 PM.

The biggest question for Rajasthan Royals fans and management is how the team will perform in Sanju Samson's absence. A significant responsibility rests on Riyan Parag's shoulders, as Rajasthan needs to solidify their position in the initial matches. A b start would significantly boost team morale upon Samson's return.
