On Friday, Manisha won a gold medal at the Asian Championships, securing India's first gold since 2021. She achieved this feat by defeating Korea's Ok Je Kim 8-7 in the final of the women's 62kg weight category.
Manisha's Powerful Performance in the Final
In the final match, Manisha showcased excellent wrestling, winning a tough contest against Korea's Ok Je Kim with a score of 8-7. Her wrestling displayed an unparalleled combination of confidence and technical skill. Kim attempted a comeback in the final moments, but Manisha maintained her grip and secured the gold medal.
In the semi-final, Manisha faced Kalmira Bilimbae Kazhi from Kazakhstan. She lost only one point in this match, winning 5-1 and advancing to the final. Earlier, she defeated Kazakhstan's Tainis Dubek based on technical superiority in the initial match and then secured another impressive victory by defeating Korea's Hanbit Lee.
Antim Pangal Wins Bronze Medal
20-year-old Antim Pangal also won her first international medal at the Asian Championships, securing a bronze medal in the 53kg category. In the quarter-final, Antim defeated China's Jin Zhang, but lost to Japan's Mo Kiyuka in the semi-final due to technical superiority. In the bronze medal playoff, Antim defeated Taipei's Meng H Sieh to secure the medal.
Neha Sharma (57kg), Monika (65kg), and Jyoti Beriwal (72kg) could not reach the medal rounds this time. However, India has won a total of eight medals so far, including two in Greco-Roman wrestling, with one gold, one silver, and six bronze medals.
