Meta and Apple Race to Develop AI Humanoid Robots
Last Updated: 18-02-2025

Meta has established a new division within its Reality Labs hardware division, specifically focused on the development of AI humanoid robots. This new initiative aims to develop future humanoid robots capable of establishing new benchmarks in the fields of AI and robotics.

Tech News: According to Bloomberg reports, both Apple and Meta are competing in the development of AI humanoid robots. Both companies aim to develop robots capable of performing common tasks, such as folding T-shirts, dancing, boiling eggs, and other everyday activities. This will be entirely possible through a combination of AI and robotics, enabling these robots to work symbiotically with humans.

Bloomberg senior reporter Mark Gurman specifically compared Apple's project to Tesla's Optimus humanoid robot, which has so far been presented as a major prototype. While Apple and Meta's development models may differ, both companies aim to create a humanoid robot that is not only functional but also capable of interacting with users.

Apple and Meta Working on Humanoid AI Robots

Meta and Apple are both working on AI humanoid robots with their own approaches, and both companies plan to play significant roles in this industry. Meta aims to create a software platform that assists hardware developers in building AI humanoid robots. For this, Meta plans to utilize its mixed reality sensors, computing power, and Llama AI model, which could give it a significant edge over competitors.

Meta is already discussing this project with companies like China’s Unitary Robotics and Figure AI. Notably, Figure AI is considered a main competitor to Tesla's Optimus robot, making Meta's plan even more intriguing.

On the other hand, Apple's focus is on showcasing its AI capabilities and cutting-edge technological solutions through its AI humanoid robot. This Apple project is being developed by its AI research teams, which already have expertise in developing advanced solutions for various technological products.

Tesla's AI Humanoid Robots to Walk Among Humans

At the We, Robot event in October 2024, Elon Musk shared details about Tesla's AI humanoid robot, Optimus. Musk announced that these robots will soon be walking among humans and becoming part of our daily lives. He gave examples such as Optimus serving drinks, walking the dog, babysitting, and mowing the lawn.

Musk claimed that these humanoid robots would cost between $20,000 and $30,000, making the technology accessible to the average person. He stated that Optimus is the "most important product" to date, potentially a game-changer for humans in the future. Musk prominently highlighted the goal of making human life easier through this technology.
