Abu Azmi Faces Increased Scrutiny After Praising Aurangzeb; Police to Interrogate. Fadnavis Uses Nehru's Book to Counter Opposition, Leading to Heated Debate in Assembly.
Abu Azmi On Aurangzeb: Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Abu Azmi's troubles are mounting following his praise of Aurangzeb. The Maharashtra Police will soon summon him for questioning. However, sources suggest immediate arrest is unlikely, though the threat remains.
Fadnavis Cites Nehru's Book
Maharashtra's political climate has heated up over the respect shown to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Amidst the Aurangzeb controversy, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis attacked the opposition, referencing Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru's book, 'The Discovery of India.' He challenged the opposition, asking, "Will they condemn the comments made about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in this book?"
Warnings of Imprisonment for Abu Azmi
In the Maharashtra Legislative Council, the Leader of the Opposition, Ambadas Danve, questioned why Abu Azmi hadn't been jailed. Fadnavis responded unequivocally, "We will certainly send him to jail." He further stated that while advocate Prashant Koratkar had appealed to the court to prevent the arrest, the greatest defamation of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had been perpetrated by Nehru himself.
Clash Between Opposition and Ruling Party in the Assembly
Abu Azmi has been suspended for the entire budget session. The opposition cornered the government, questioning why no action had been taken against former journalist Prashant Koratkar, actor Rahul Solapurkar, and former Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari.
This led to a heated debate between the ruling party and the opposition. When the opposition accused the government of applying double standards, Fadnavis countered by asking, "Will the opposition condemn Nehru's book?"
