Omprakash Behera, from Bhubaneswar, Odisha, secured the first rank in this prestigious engineering entrance exam. Omprakash had already achieved a perfect score of 300 out of 300 in the January session, and his performance in the April exam was also top-notch.
Omprakash's success has made him an inspiration for millions of students across the country. Significantly, he does not use a smartphone. He believes that mobile phones disrupt focus on studies, so he has kept himself away from them and focused solely on his studies.
No Phone, Focus Essential: Omprakash's Study Mantra
Omprakash explains that he does not have any social media accounts and does not use a phone. He dedicates about 8 to 9 hours daily to self-study. He says, "Instead of wasting time on what's past, one should focus on the present."
He analyses his performance after each test and considers the habit of learning from his mistakes to be crucial.
JEE Preparation Strategy
Omprakash devised a strategic plan for both JEE Main and Advanced. He followed the guidelines of his coaching faculty and took every test seriously. He believes that merely studying is not enough; it's essential to understand where one is going wrong. Therefore, after each test, he analysed his performance and avoided repeating mistakes.
Mother's unwavering support: Three years on leave
Omprakash's mother, Smita Rani Behera, played a significant role in his success. She is an education lecturer at a college in Odisha, but she has been on leave for the past three years to fully support her son's studies and has been living with him in Kota.
Omprakash says, "My mother was always with me, taking complete care of my studies. This success would have been difficult without her."
Next Goal: CSE Branch at IIT Mumbai
Omprakash's next goal is to clear JEE Advanced and secure admission to the Computer Science branch at IIT Mumbai. He has a deep interest in technology and wants to work in research and innovation in the future. He says that it's not just about achieving a rank but also about utilising that knowledge to create something new and better for society.
Hobbies are essential too
Besides studying, Omprakash enjoys reading novels. He reads at least one new book every month. This habit keeps him mentally refreshed and prevents burnout. He believes that maintaining mental balance alongside studies is crucial for sustained focus and long-term effort.
Excellent performance in 10th standard
Omprakash has been academically bright since childhood. He scored 92 percent in his 10th-grade examinations. His school and coaching teachers say he has always been a dedicated and disciplined student.
