Delhi: The youth wing of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced its support for financially weaker but deserving students in the upcoming Delhi University (DU) student union elections. This initiative will be open to students applying from August 15th to 25th. AAP President Saurabh Bharadwaj and MLA Sanjeev Jha stated that the aim of this scheme is to make the student union elections fair and to select candidates based on merit, leadership skills, and eloquence rather than money or muscle power. This step is expected to provide equal opportunities to students.
Financially Weaker Students Will Get an Equal Opportunity
The youth wing of AAP has announced a plan to support financially weaker but deserving students for the Delhi University (DU) student union elections. The party says that its aim is to reduce the influence of money and muscle power on campus and to provide fair opportunities to deserving students. Under this initiative, students can submit their applications from August 15th to 25th, and if found eligible, they will be provided with financial and institutional support to contest the elections.
The party has clarified that the support will not be limited to financial assistance. Selected candidates will be provided with electoral guidance, strategic advice, and assistance in full preparation, so that all eligible students can participate in the student union elections with equal opportunities.
Priority to Merit and Leadership
AAP Delhi President Saurabh Bharadwaj stated that if a student has the potential but is financially weak, they will be supported based on merit. He described it as the beginning of a fair and ideal political process in the student union elections. Bharadwaj said that now the elections will be decided not only by money or muscle power but by the student's merit, leadership skills, and policy approach.
MLA Sanjeev Jha also emphasized that the party's goal is that students' talent should be judged not by things like cars or cash, but by their ability and leadership skills. Jha said that it is important to start clean and fair politics from the college level.
Preparations and Importance of Student Union Elections
This year, the DU student union elections will be held on September 18th and the results will be announced on September 19th. Traditionally, supporters of major political parties and financially capable students have won the elections. This initiative of AAP is considered an important step towards making the election process fair and democratic by supporting financially weaker students.
