Air India Express flight from Delhi to Indore experienced engine malfunction. Pilot sent a Pan-Pan message. Aircraft made a safe landing with 161 passengers unharmed. The technical issue was related to the oil filter.
Indore: A technical malfunction occurred on an Air India Express flight traveling from Delhi to Indore on Sunday morning. The aircraft's engine was not functioning properly during the flight, prompting the pilot to immediately send an emergency 'Pan-Pan' message to Air Traffic Control (ATC). However, the aircraft was safely landed at Indore Airport, and all 161 passengers are completely safe.
What does Pan-Pan mean?
'Pan-Pan' is an internationally recognized signal used in maritime and aeronautical radio communications. This signal indicates a serious situation requiring immediate assistance, but it is not a life-threatening emergency. Through this message, pilots request assistance from ATC or Ground Services to ensure the safety of the aircraft and its passengers.
Technical issue with the aircraft
Airport Director Vipinkant Seth stated that a technical malfunction was detected in one of the engines of flight IX 1028, which was en route from Delhi to Indore. Before landing, the pilot transmitted a Pan-Pan message to ATC. Subsequently, as per Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), fire and medical services were arranged at the airport.
He further informed that a total of 161 passengers were on board. The technical issue was likely related to the oil filter. Due to this, the aircraft landed at Indore Airport approximately 20 minutes behind its scheduled time. The pilot executed a safe landing with utmost caution.
All passengers safe, no casualties
An Air India Express spokesperson confirmed that no passenger or crew member sustained any injuries during the flight. They added that the pilot is fully trained and capable of handling such technical or precautionary situations. All passengers are safe and were disembarked at the airport following normal procedures after landing.
Emergency protocol followed
Following the Pan-Pan message sent by the pilot, Indore Airport officials and staff were immediately put on high alert. Firefighting vehicles, medical teams, and other essential personnel remained on standby until the aircraft landed. This ensured an immediate response in case of any unforeseen event.
The Air India Express spokesperson reiterated that this is part of the standard procedure and the airline's crew is thoroughly trained to manage such technical issues.
