Election Process and Voting
The board election was held at a hotel in Dhaka, where voting was conducted through both physical ballots and e-ballots. Out of a total of 156 eligible voters, 115 cast their votes. The election process was completed in two phases. In the first phase, voters, known as 'Councilors,' elected 23 directors across three categories.
- First Category: 10 directors representing all divisions and districts of the country, including Aminul Islam.
- Second Category: 12 directors elected by Dhaka's clubs.
- Third Category: Representatives from various institutions, former players, captains, and organizations.
Subsequently, the government formed a 25-member board by adding two representatives. At 6:30 PM, the Election Commission announced the names of the board directors.
Election of President and Vice-Presidents
The new 25-member body voted among themselves for the President and Vice-Presidents. Aminul Islam was elected President, and Faruk Ahmed and Shakhawat Hossain were elected Vice-Presidents unopposed. The board now includes three former captains:
- Aminul Islam
- Faruk Ahmed
- Khaled Mashud
Additionally, former cricketer Abdur Razzak was elected unopposed from a sub-category. Razzak had recently resigned from the Men's Selection Committee. Several controversies and objections were observed during the election preparations. Former captain Tamim Iqbal had withdrawn his candidacy, alleging interference. Aminul Islam had written to the board secretariat requesting new nominations for the first phase, which was approved by the court one day before the election.
Aminul's Statement After Becoming President
After being elected president, Aminul Islam said, 'I have learned to love the development of Bangladesh cricket and want to continue this journey. In the next four years, I will make every effort to bring improvement and development to every aspect of the board.' His vision indicates stability and long-term planning for the board.
Aminul Islam has played 13 Tests and 39 ODIs in his career. He also captained the Bangladesh team in the 1999 World Cup. His captaincy and experience have led Bangladesh cricket through many challenging periods. In May 2025, when he first became president, he had stated that his short tenure would be like a “fast T20 innings.” Now, as board president for a longer term, he will implement new strategies for Bangladesh cricket.
