Apple has accelerated iPhone production in India, disregarding warnings from Trump. Foxconn has launched a second plant in Bangalore, after Chennai, where the iPhone-17 is being manufactured. The company aims to increase iPhone production in India to 60 million units by the end of this year.
iPhone Production: Despite warnings from former U.S. President Donald Trump, Apple has decided to increase its production in India. Foxconn has started a new plant in Devanahalli, Bangalore, with an investment of $2.8 billion, making it the second-largest factory after Chennai. iPhone-17 manufacturing has begun here on a small scale. Apple aims to manufacture 60 million iPhones in India by the end of this year. According to CEO Tim Cook, most of the iPhones sold in the U.S. will be exported from India, which is moving towards becoming a global production hub.
Investment of 25 Thousand Crores in Bangalore
Foxconn, the world's largest contract manufacturing company and manufacturer of iPhones for Apple, has invested heavily in its new factory in Bangalore, approximately $2.8 billion, or about 25 thousand crores of rupees. Production has started on a small scale at this plant, but it will be expanded in the coming months. This is considered Foxconn's second-largest factory outside of China.
India to Become a Major Production Hub
Apple plans to increase iPhone production in India to six crore units by the end of 2025. Last year, the company manufactured approximately 3.5 to 4 crore units. This means that the number of iPhones manufactured in India will increase rapidly in the coming months. Apple CEO Tim Cook has already indicated that most of the iPhones sold in the U.S. will be imported from India.
Trump's Warning Ignored
A few months ago, Trump asked Apple to halt plans to build a plant in India. During a visit to Qatar, he discussed this with Apple CEO Tim Cook. Trump clearly stated that the U.S. wants Apple to increase its production in America rather than in India. He even said that India can take care of itself, and the U.S. has no interest in building new factories there.
However, Apple ignored this warning. The company has made it clear that its focus is now on making India a global production hub by opening a second large factory in India.
Production in Bangalore After Chennai
Apple's large plant is already operating in Chennai, where the iPhone-17 is being produced. Now, production has also started from the new plant in Devanahalli, Bangalore. With two large factories, the level of iPhone manufacturing in India is set to increase rapidly. This will also increase employment opportunities in the country and further strengthen India's identity as a global tech hub.
Why Apple's Confidence in India Has Increased
There are several reasons why Apple is confident in India. The constantly changing conditions and strict policies in China are creating difficulties for companies. On the other hand, a large consumer market, incentives for investment, and a stable political environment in India are attracting companies. In addition, the Indian government is also providing large-scale support to tech companies through schemes such as "Make in India" and the Production Linked Incentive Scheme.
How Much Will Production Capacity Increase with the New Plant
Apple's production capacity will increase significantly with the opening of the Bangalore plant. Production has started on a small scale here in the initial phase, but gradually it will reach the level of the Chennai plant. It is estimated that the two factories together will manufacture six crore iPhones annually. This will not only increase the number of iPhones made in India but also send units made in India to markets such as the U.S. and Europe.
