Assam CM Orders Shoot-at-Sight Against Rioters in Dhubri

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma orders shoot-at-sight against rioters in communal tension-hit Dhubri. RAF and CRPF deployed to control the situation.

Assam: Following escalating communal tensions in Dhubri district, Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has adopted a b stance, ordering a "shoot-at-sight" policy against rioters during nighttime. The situation erupted after the discovery of meat near a temple, followed by further provocative incidents. Security forces' deployment has been significantly increased to bring the situation under control.

Dispute Erupts After Meat Found Near Temple

Tensions in Dhubri district began on June 7th when a cow's head was found in front of a Hanuman temple. This incident, occurring a day after Bakrid, sparked outrage among local communities. Subsequently, provocative incidents in the area increased.

While locals appealed for peace and harmony, the same act was repeated the following day in front of the temple, followed by stone-pelting at night, escalating the situation further.

Chief Minister Visits Dhubri

Given the seriousness of the situation, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Dhubri on Friday. He reviewed the situation and issued strict instructions.

The Chief Minister stated that a "communal group" was conspiring to disrupt the peace in the area, which would not be tolerated. He ordered shoot-at-sight, authorizing police to take direct action against anyone found rioting at night.

Strict Security Measures; RAF and CRPF Deployed

Rapid Action Force (RAF) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel are being deployed in the district to control the situation. The Chief Minister has made it clear that no one involved in disturbing the peace will be spared. All culprits will be arrested swiftly.

Accusations of Inflammatory Activities Against ‘Nabin Bangla’ Organization

Sarma alleged that an organization called ‘Nabin Bangla’ put up inflammatory posters demanding Dhubri's annexation to Bangladesh before Bakrid. The organization's activities are being taken seriously, and investigations have been ordered. The Chief Minister stated that the posters aimed to spread fear and create tension among the people. The state government will take strict action against such organizations.

Claims of a New Beef Mafia

Chief Minister Sarma also revealed that thousands of cattle were brought from West Bengal during Bakrid. He stated that a new "beef mafia" has become active in Dhubri, purchasing and slaughtering a large number of animals before the festival.

Sarma has instructed officials to thoroughly investigate this trade and arrest everyone involved. He asserted that such criminal activities will not be tolerated in the state under any circumstances.
