Australia has created history by winning the fifth and final T20 international match against the West Indies. In this match, Australia achieved the target of 171 runs in just 17 overs and won the five-match series 5-0.
Sports News: The Australian cricket team has created history by achieving a clean sweep of 5-0 in the T20 International Series against the West Indies. This is the first time Australia has won all matches in a five-match T20I series. With this, the Kangaroo team has equaled India's 2020 record, when Team India defeated New Zealand 5-0 in their own backyard.
Australia's Historic Victory
In the fifth and final T20I match of the West Indies tour, Australia achieved the target of 171 runs in just 17 overs with a brilliant performance. The team won this match by 3 wickets and won the series 5-0. This performance has been recorded as a major achievement in cricket history as only a few teams have won all matches in a T20 series of five or more matches so far.
Equaling India's Great Record
With this win, Australia has equaled the record of India, which Team India made against New Zealand in 2020. Then, under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, India won the five-match T20I series 5-0 on Kiwi soil. This is only the sixth time in T20I cricket history that all matches have been won in a series of 5 or more matches.
Apart from India and Australia, this feat has also been achieved by Malaysia, Cayman Islands, Tanzania and Spain. Interestingly, Spain has done this twice, although the last match of one of those series was not played, so it is not included in the official record.
Exciting Fifth Match
The match started with Australia winning the toss and deciding to bowl. The West Indies had a very poor start and lost 3 wickets in the powerplay itself. Shimron Hetmyer played an innings of 52 runs in 31 balls and Sherfane Rutherford added 35 runs in 17 balls, but the rest of the batsmen could not last. As a result, the Windies team was all out for 170 runs in the last over.
The Australian bowlers displayed disciplined bowling. All 6 bowlers of the team took wickets. Ben Dwarshuis performed best, taking 3 wickets, while Adam Zampa and Sean Abbott took 2 wickets each.
Australia's Explosive Batting
Chasing 171 runs, Australia also had a slightly shaky start, but the team recovered quickly. Captain Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis kept the run rate from falling by batting aggressively. Batsmen like Travis Head, Tim David and Matthew Short also batted aggressively and the team achieved the target in just 17 overs.
This victory was not only helpful in clean sweeping the series, but it has also boosted Australia's confidence in the T20I rankings. This performance could prove crucial for them in view of the preparations for the 2026 World Cup.
