Sonia Gandhi Criticizes PM Modi's Silence on Gaza Human Rights Violations

Sonia Gandhi called PM Modi's silence on the human rights violations in Gaza shameful and appealed to India to adopt a humanitarian approach.

New Delhi: Congress leader Sonia Gandhi has expressed concern over Israel's military action and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. In an article, she termed Prime Minister Modi's silence as 'shameful' and accused him of deviating from India's traditional foreign policy. Sonia described the blocking of essential supplies in Gaza as a cruel strategy and appealed to the international community for intervention.

Called Israel's attacks on Gaza a 'crime against humanity'

In her article, Sonia Gandhi wrote that the military operation and blockade by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) in Gaza have pushed millions of people into a situation of hunger, disease, and insecurity. She said that basic supplies like food, medicines, and fuel are being deliberately stopped.

Describing it as a planned and cruel strategy, Gandhi wrote, "This is not just a war, but a man-made tragedy. The people of Gaza are being deprived of their fundamental human rights."

Infrastructure Destroyed

In the article, Sonia Gandhi also mentioned the destruction of Gaza's infrastructure. She said – "The Israeli blockade has completely destroyed hospitals, electricity, water, and communication systems. People are dying in hospitals without treatment, and children are not even getting milk. This is a planned attack against humanity."

Appealed to the International Community for Intervention

Sonia Gandhi appealed to the international community to take immediate steps to stop the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. She said – "This is not just a conflict between Israel and Palestine. This is a case demanding a global human response."

Questioned India's Historical Role

In her article, Sonia Gandhi recalled India's traditional foreign policy and the legacy of the Non-Aligned Movement. She wrote that India has always supported human rights, peace, and equality.

She questioned, "Does today's India stand with the same moral values and principles for which it was known? Will we now determine our silence only on the basis of strategic partnerships and political equations?"

Called PM Modi's Silence 'Disappointing'

Sonia Gandhi described Prime Minister Narendra Modi's lack of response as a 'shameful silence'. She said that when thousands of people are losing their lives in Gaza, when millions of people are suffering from starvation and disease, India's silence is a departure from its moral responsibility.

She wrote – "This is the time when India should adopt a clear, b, and humanitarian stance. This is the same legacy that we have received from leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, and Atal Bihari Vajpayee."
