Austrian Federal Chancellor Christian Stocker has arrived in New Delhi on an official visit to India, marking his first official trip to both India and Asia. The visit is aimed at advancing diplomatic and economic engagement between the two countries.
Stocker was received at Indira Gandhi International Airport by Minister of State Raksha Khadse. He is accompanied by a high-level delegation that includes ministers responsible for economy, energy and tourism, along with senior officials and representatives from the business sector. The composition of the delegation indicates a focus on strengthening economic and industrial cooperation alongside political engagement.
During his visit, Stocker is scheduled to meet President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. The meetings are intended to reinforce bilateral ties and explore opportunities for cooperation across multiple sectors. Prime Minister Modi will host a formal luncheon in honour of the visiting Chancellor.
Bilateral discussions between Prime Minister Modi and Chancellor Stocker are expected to cover a range of issues, including energy cooperation with an emphasis on renewable energy and green technologies, expansion of bilateral trade and investment, collaboration in innovation, digital transformation and industrial development, and coordination on global and regional issues. The two sides are also expected to discuss enhancing cooperation at multilateral forums.
India and Austria have maintained longstanding bilateral relations characterised by cooperation across multiple sectors. Both countries share commitments to democratic values, the rule of law and global peace. Bilateral engagement gained renewed momentum following Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Austria in 2024, and the current visit is expected to build on that progress.
