Bank Branches to Remain Closed in Sikkim Maharashtra Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram on Designated Dates Under RBI Holiday List

Bank branches in Sikkim, Maharashtra, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram will remain closed on designated dates in February under the RBI holiday list, while digital banking services including NEFT, UPI, net banking and ATM withdrawals will continue to operate.

Bank branches will remain closed in multiple states over the next three days in accordance with the Reserve Bank of India’s official holiday list. Branches in Sikkim, Maharashtra, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram will not operate on designated dates, while online banking services will continue without interruption.

Customers are advised to verify state-specific bank holidays before visiting a branch, as closures are determined under the Reserve Bank of India’s official holiday schedule. While physical branches will remain closed on applicable dates, digital banking services will remain operational, enabling customers to complete transactions through online channels.

The Reserve Bank of India classifies bank holidays into three categories, each affecting banking operations differently. The first category covers holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act. On these days, banks remain fully closed and branch-based services, including cheque clearing, are affected. Major festivals such as Holi, Diwali, Eid and Christmas fall under this category.

The second category includes RTGS holidays, which vary by state based on local festivals and traditions. During these holidays, bank branches remain closed, but digital services continue. Large-value transactions through RTGS are not processed at branches on these days.

The third category relates to account closing. On 1 April each year, marking the beginning of the new financial year, bank employees complete the previous year’s accounts. Banks remain open on this day, but regular counter services are not available.

On 18 February, banks in Sikkim will remain closed on account of the Losar festival, observed as the first day of the Tibetan New Year and designated as a state-level holiday. Banking operations in other parts of the country will function normally.

On 19 February, banks in Maharashtra will remain closed due to the observance of Veer Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti, which is declared a public holiday in the state. Banking services outside Maharashtra will remain unaffected.

On 20 February, banks in Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram will remain closed on account of State Day, which is observed as a public holiday in both states. Banking operations in other states will continue as usual.

On 22 February, banks across the country will remain closed due to Sunday, the weekly holiday. The combination of state-specific holidays and the weekly closure may result in consecutive days of branch shutdowns in certain regions.

Despite branch closures, customers can continue to use Net Banking, Mobile Banking and UPI applications to transfer funds. NEFT and other online transaction services will remain available. Payments can be made using credit and debit cards, and cash withdrawals can be carried out through ATMs. Customers can also apply for cheque books, request demand drafts, update account details and set PINs through digital channels.

Services that require physical branch presence, including cash deposits, cheque clearance processing, loan applications and document verification, will be available only after branches reopen.
