Bank Holidays in July 2025: Plan Your Banking Activities Accordingly

According to the RBI, bank holidays fall into three categories: holidays declared under the Negotiable Instruments Act, holidays related to bank account closings, and holidays related to RTGS.

If you are planning any bank-related work in July 2025, it's essential to check the holiday list first. This time, banking services at the branch level will be closed for a total of 13 days in July. These include Sundays, the second and fourth Saturdays, and local festivals of different states. However, digital banking facilities will continue to be available during these days.

Bank holidays fall into three categories

According to the Reserve Bank of India, bank holidays come under three main categories:
First, holidays declared under the 'Negotiable Instruments Act'
Second, holidays due to the closing of bank accounts
Third, technical holidays related to RTGS

Some of these holidays are applicable throughout the country, while some are limited to certain states or cities.

Branch operations will be closed for 13 days in July

This time, bank branches will be closed for a total of 13 days in July. However, not all banks will be closed on these holidays. Some holidays are state-specific and will be valid only in the respective states. Here is the complete list:

These services will not be affected

Despite the closure of bank branches, customers can perform many essential tasks online. Nowadays, most banking services can be easily accessed through mobile and internet banking. These include:

  • Money transfer (via IMPS, NEFT, RTGS)
  • Checking account balance
  • Paying credit card bills
  • Mobile recharge and utility bill payments
  • Requesting checkbooks or passbooks
  • Renewal of or new investment in services like FD, RD

In addition, withdrawing cash from ATMs and making payments with debit or credit cards will also continue as usual.

Plan ahead if you need to visit the branch

Although digital services are available 24x7, many people still need to visit the bank for documentation, check clearing, or any specific branch-related procedures. In such cases, if you are planning to visit the bank on any day in July, plan your schedule keeping these holidays in mind.

The impact will vary in different cities due to state-wise holidays

Some of the holidays in July will be applicable across the country, such as Sundays and second/fourth Saturdays. However, some holidays like Kharchi Puja, Beh Deinkhlam, Harela, Ker Puja, or Druktpa Tshe-zi will only be valid in those states where these festivals are celebrated.

For example

  • Banks will be closed on July 3 and 19 in Agartala
  • No transactions will take place in Shillong on July 14 and 17
  • Banking services will be disrupted in Dehradun on July 16
  • There will be a holiday in Gangtok on July 28

Keep in mind the time limits of NEFT and RTGS

Although RTGS and NEFT are digital mediums, their services are available within a specific time frame. Processing of these services may be delayed on Sundays and holidays. Therefore, it is better to transfer the necessary funds well in advance.

The trend of digital transactions has increased

In the past few years, people's interest in digital banking has increased significantly. Digital payments and mobile banking usage, especially during holidays, appear to be growing. Options like QR codes, UPI, and internet banking have made customer convenience even easier.

ATM and card services will continue to be available

Even when bank branches are closed, the facility to withdraw cash from ATMs will be available. Also, online or offline payments can be made with cards. Customers can seamlessly use ATMs and cards for their banking needs.

Check the calendar once before banking

If you need to visit a branch for any essential banking work in July, it would be better to check the state-wise holiday list. This will not only save time but will also save you the trouble of repeatedly going to and returning from the bank.
