A branch manager of Bank of Baroda (BOB) in Baramati city, Pune district, Maharashtra, committed suicide by hanging himself inside the office. The deceased has been identified as Shivshankar Mitra, who was working as the Chief Manager at the branch. The incident came to light when other bank employees arrived at the branch in the morning and found him hanging from the noose.
A suicide note has also been recovered from the scene, in which the deceased cited work pressure and health-related issues as the reason behind his suicide. He also clarified that neither his family nor any colleague should be blamed for his action.
Had Already Resigned
According to information, Shivshankar Mitra had resigned from his post on July 11 and was currently serving his notice period. In his resignation, he had also cited health problems and excessive work pressure.
According to the police, the incident took place between 10 pm and 12 am on July 18. When Shivshankar did not return home late at night, his wife informed the police. Later, with the help of bank employees, when the branch was inspected, his body was found hanging.
Police Investigation Underway
Baramati City Police Station Inspector Vilas Nale stated that the suicide note found in the deceased's trouser pocket clearly stated that he was struggling with excessive work pressure and that he took this step because of it.
The police have sent the body for post-mortem and are investigating the entire matter seriously.
This incident is not only tragic, but also raises a serious question about the mental stress at the workplace.
