Developed in the northern region of Andhra Pradesh, the Bhogapuram-based Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport is regarded by the state government as one of the state's key infrastructure projects. The government said the airport will not only improve air connectivity but also provide a foundation for investment, trade, tourism and industrial development.
State Housing and Information Minister Kolusu Parthasarathy said the proposed inauguration on August 1 would mark a historic moment in Andhra Pradesh's development. According to him, the project will play an important role in connecting North Andhra with national and global economic activities.
According to the state government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the international airport on August 1. The government also proposed the inauguration and foundation laying of various development projects worth approximately ₹17,912 crore on the same occasion.
The government said these projects are expected to enhance transportation, industrial development, infrastructure and regional connectivity.
Parthasarathy said people in North Andhra had long sought better connectivity and a modern airport. He said the project is intended to become a centre for the region's economic development.
According to the minister, the new airport will support exports, logistics, tourism, industrial investment and the services sector. He said it will also improve access for local businesses to national and international markets.
The Andhra Pradesh government said the project is expected to generate thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities.
Apart from airport operations, the government said employment is likely to increase in the hotel industry, transportation, logistics, warehousing, tourism, retail trade and the services sector.

The government said the airport also features modern passenger amenities, advanced security systems and improved logistics infrastructure designed to meet future requirements.
While speaking to the media, Parthasarathy also criticised the policies of the previous state government.
He alleged that development slowed during the previous government's tenure and that several investment projects did not achieve the expected progress.
The minister also said the current government is actively working to attract investment in the information technology sector and advance major industrial projects.
