RJD Gains Support from Mahan Dal and Faces Accusations Against Election Commission

Although the official announcement for the Bihar assembly elections hasn't been made yet, political activities are gaining momentum. In this context, a significant development has emerged. The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), led by Lalu Prasad Yadav, has received open support from another political party from Uttar Pradesh.

Patna: Ahead of the 2026 Bihar assembly elections, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) is witnessing a series of support declarations. Following Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, the regional political party of Uttar Pradesh, the Mahan Dal, has also announced its open support for Tejashwi Yadav. This announcement comes at a time when opposition parties in Bihar have leveled serious allegations against the Election Commission and have opened a front against the government.

Keshav Dev Maurya said: 'Tejashwi, fight on, Mahan Dal is with you'

Keshav Dev Maurya, the president of Mahan Dal, shared a video on the social media site X (formerly Twitter), writing, "Tejashwi Yadav, fight on, Mahan Dal is with you." Along with this post, he also shared a joint video clip of Tejashwi Yadav and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, in which both leaders can be seen participating in a protest march.

Earlier, the national president of the Samajwadi Party, Akhilesh Yadav, had also announced in a press conference that his party would fully support the RJD in Bihar.

Tejashwi's sharp attack: The Election Commission has become the Godi Commission

Tejashwi Yadav, in an aggressive post, wrote: "The Election Commission has become the Godi Commission." He further stated that with the cooperation of the Election Commission, the BJP government will first cut off the votes of the poor and then take away their ration-pension and reservation, depriving them of their right to vote. Tejashwi added that Bihar is the mother of democracy and the people here are vigilant and struggling. He indicated that the RJD is going to fight this election as a struggle to protect democracy.

Alliance strategy

In the Bihar elections, the RJD is already in an alliance with the Indian National Congress and the Left parties. But now, the way regional parties from Uttar Pradesh are also announcing their support, it is clear that the opposition camp is also receiving "external support," which can become a strategic advantage in the upcoming elections. Although the support of Mahan Dal may not seem very effective in terms of seats, it definitely gives a "psychological and political message" of opposition unity that the alliance standing against the BJP is not limited to Bihar only, but leaders from other states are also ready to be a part of this struggle.

The opposition, led by Tejashwi Yadav and the Congress, recently announced a Bihar bandh (strike), in which other opposition parties also participated. Their allegation is that the Election Commission is not working impartially and has become a "convenient institution" for the ruling BJP at the center.
