BJP has accused Sonia Gandhi of having her name added to the voter list in 1980, even though she was not an Indian citizen at the time. The BJP countered Congress's allegations of vote theft and shared documents.
New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has leveled a serious 45-year-old accusation against former Congress President Sonia Gandhi. The party claims that Sonia Gandhi's name was included in the voter list in 1980, even though she was not an Indian citizen at that time. The BJP, raising this issue, stated that it raises serious questions about the voting process and electoral transparency of that time.
Countering Congress's Voter Fraud Allegations
This allegation has surfaced at a time when the Congress has accused the BJP and the Election Commission of colluding to commit voter fraud. The Congress had claimed that there were discrepancies in the voter lists in various states and that inconsistent voting occurred against the opposition party. Responding to this allegation, the BJP objected to Sonia Gandhi's name and stated that the Congress itself is being inappropriate in its own issue.
Anurag Thakur's Claim
Former Union Minister and BJP MP Anurag Thakur said that Sonia Gandhi, born in Italy in 1946, had her name in the voter list from 1980 to 1982. This was at a time when she was still a year away from receiving Indian citizenship. BJP leader Amit Malviya also shared this matter on social media platform X, showing documents that clearly showed Sonia Gandhi's name recorded in the 1980 voter list.
Voter List Controversy
Sonia Gandhi's case has raised questions about the citizenship and voter list processes in the country. Having someone's name on the voter list before they receive citizenship can be considered against electoral rules. The BJP presented this as a violation of electoral transparency and the law.
