Breast Cancer on the Rise Among Young Women: Causes, Symptoms, and Prevention

Breast cancer is now increasing among women aged 30-40 years. Experts state that the main reasons for this are poor diet, an unhealthy lifestyle, alcohol consumption, and smoking. Some research has also linked chemicals present in cosmetic products to the risk. Early detection and caution can help prevent this cancer.

Breast cancer awareness month: Breast cancer is now rapidly increasing among young women, especially in the 30-40 age group. According to Dr. Saloni Chaddha, Associate Professor at RML Hospital, Delhi, the main reasons for this are poor diet, an unhealthy lifestyle, alcohol consumption, and smoking. Some research has also linked chemicals present in cosmetic products to the risk, but a direct correlation is not yet clear. Early symptoms include lumps, changes in shape, dimpling of the skin, and nipple inversion, which, if identified in time, can lead to timely prevention.

Why Breast Cancer is Increasing at a Younger Age

Dr. Saloni Chaddha, Associate Professor in the Department of Gynecology at RML Hospital, Delhi, explains that the main reasons behind the rise of breast cancer at a younger age are poor diet and an unhealthy lifestyle. The prevalence of smoking and alcohol consumption among women in this age group has also increased, which raises the risk of cancer.

According to Dr. Saloni, diagnoses are now more frequent compared to before, and women are becoming more aware of this disease. This is why breast cancer is being detected in many women even in the 30 to 40-year age group.

Are Cosmetic Products a Risk Factor?

Some research claims that chemicals present in cosmetic products can enter the body and affect the function of the estrogen hormone. This hormone plays a significant role in the development of breast tissue. Thus, if the hormonal balance is disturbed, the risk of tumors may increase.

According to research published in the UK, cosmetic products contain preservatives and other chemicals that can enter the body through the skin. However, the research also states that human studies on this topic are limited, and the conclusions are not fully clear. This does not mean that these products directly cause cancer, but their excessive use may increase the risk.

Symptoms of Breast Cancer

Women should pay attention to the following symptoms in their bodies:

  • Any lump inside or around the breast.
  • Changes in breast size or shape.
  • Dimpling or puckering of the breast skin.
  • Nipple inversion or unusual changes.

Dr. Saloni states that these symptoms should not be ignored. Early detection and timely treatment can control breast cancer.

Awareness and Timely Screening

Experts say that regular self-examination and consultation with a doctor are crucial for detecting breast cancer at a younger age. With increased awareness among women, diagnoses are now more frequent than before. This makes it possible to treat the disease in its early stages.
