Team India has showcased a stellar performance in the first Test match of the ongoing five-match series in England. This Test match is being played at the historic Headingley ground in Leeds.
Sports News: Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has once again etched his name in history. In the Leeds Test against England, Bumrah's five-wicket haul not only propelled India to a first-innings lead but also added a new chapter to his impressive personal records. In this match, Bumrah took 5 wickets for 83 runs in 24.4 overs, marking his 14th five-wicket haul in his Test career.
This feat also marks the third time he has achieved a five-wicket haul in an innings of a Test match on English soil, making him the first Indian bowler to accomplish this.
Bumrah Becomes Indian Bowler with Most Five-Wicket Hauls in England
With this performance, Jasprit Bumrah surpassed nine legendary Indian bowlers, including Kapil Dev, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ishant Sharma, and B.S. Chandrasekhar. All these bowlers had taken a maximum of two five-wicket hauls in England. Bumrah is now the sole Indian bowler with three five-wicket hauls in an innings on English soil. The bowlers Bumrah surpassed are:
- Lala Amarnath
- Vinoo Mankad
- Mohammad Nissar
- B.S. Chandrasekhar
- Kapil Dev
- Chetan Sharma
- Bhuvneshwar Kumar
- Ishant Sharma
- Surendra Nath
Bumrah's record is not limited to England alone. He has completed 150 Test wickets in the SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia) countries, considered some of the most challenging cricketing territories. He is the first and, to date, the only Asian bowler to achieve this milestone. He consistently performed exceptionally well in these countries to reach this landmark:
- Australia: 64 wickets
- England: 42 wickets
- South Africa: 38 wickets
- New Zealand: 6 wickets
Previously, Wasim Akram of Pakistan led this list, but Bumrah has now surpassed him.
Top 6 Bowlers with Most Wickets in SENA

- Curtly Ambrose - 184 wickets (West Indies)
- Jasprit Bumrah - 150 wickets (India)
