Chandigarh Cyber Cell has registered a video tampering case against Punjab ministers Aman Arora and Harpal Cheema following a complaint from Congress leader Pratap Singh Bajwa. They are accused of editing and misrepresenting a video of his statement.
Punjab: The Chandigarh Cyber Cell has filed a case against two Punjab cabinet ministers, Aman Arora and Harpal Singh Cheema. The two leaders are accused of intentionally editing a video of Congress leader Pratap Singh Bajwa's statement and sharing it on social media in a misleading manner.
Case Registered After Pratap Singh Bajwa's Complaint
The case came to light after a complaint filed by Pratap Singh Bajwa on July 7. He alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders edited a video of him in such a way as to make it appear that he was opposing the vigilance action against MLA Gunev Kaur Majithia. However, in reality, his statement was limited to questioning the manner of the government's action.
What was in the Video?
Pratap Singh Bajwa had made a video on June 25, which was 3 minutes and 13 seconds long, in which he questioned the way the vigilance conducted the raid at MLA Gunev Kaur's official residence. He clearly stated that he was not opposing the action, but questioning the process. However, it is alleged that the video was cut and presented in such a way that he appeared to be opposing the entire action.
Under which Sections is the Case Registered?
The Chandigarh Cyber Cell has registered a case against Aman Arora and Harpal Cheema under sections 336/4, 356 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and section 61/2 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). These sections are considered serious and will be investigated based on digital evidence.
Bajwa's Major Allegation Against Aam Aadmi Party Leaders
In his complaint, Pratap Bajwa clarified that four senior Aam Aadmi Party leaders - Arvind Kejriwal, Bhagwant Mann, Aman Arora and Harpal Cheema - had tampered with his video. Bajwa also alleged that these leaders posted the edited video on their X (formerly Twitter) accounts, which sent a wrong message to the public.
AAP vs. Congress: Accusations of Damaging Image
The matter has further intensified the conflict between the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party. Congress leaders say that this is a well-thought-out conspiracy to tarnish the image of the opposition. No formal response has yet come from the AAP.
