China has developed a Planet-Wide Defence System capable of monitoring 1,000 missiles. America's Golden Dome project is still under development. Experts believe this will give China an advantage in global defence.
World Update: In a major leap in the field of defence, China has developed its first-of-its-kind global missile defence system. This system is being called the "Distributed Early Warning Detection Big Data Platform," capable of monitoring potential missile attacks worldwide. According to reports, this system can track up to 1,000 missiles simultaneously and rapidly analyze potential threats.
China's system is similar to former U.S. President Donald Trump's 'Golden Dome' project, but China has already surpassed the U.S. in its early stages of development.
The Dream of U.S. President Ronald Reagan
In 1983, during the Cold War, U.S. President Ronald Reagan announced the "Star Wars" Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI). He envisioned a system that could intercept and destroy intercontinental ballistic missiles. Reagan stated that this system would protect American cities and citizens from nuclear attack. However, due to the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 and technological limitations, this vision was never fully realized.
Trump Carries Forward Reagan's Dream
Nearly four decades later, U.S. President Donald Trump continued Reagan's dream. In May 2025, Trump proposed the 'Golden Dome' missile shield. This multi-layered missile defence system would span the U.S. mainland, Alaska, and Hawaii, including one satellite-based layer and three ground-based layers. The estimated cost is $175 billion. It would incorporate 11 short-range batteries and an AI-enabled surveillance system, helping to protect America from potential missile attacks.
China Develops Its Prototype
Meanwhile, Chinese scientists have developed a prototype of their global missile defence system. According to a South China Morning Post report, this system utilizes various sensors across space, sea, air, and land. It not only identifies missiles but can also analyze their flight paths and potential attacks.
Scientists from the Nanjing Research Institute of Electronics Technology stated that this prototype system can handle up to 1,000 data processing tasks across various nodes through distributed parallel scheduling. Tests have been successfully conducted on multiple early warning and detection system nodes. This provides China with the ability to analyze missiles in real-time and deliver necessary responses.
U.S. Golden Dome Project Still Under Development
In contrast, America's Golden Dome project has yet to establish a clear technical structure. While this system aims to create an integrated, AI-enabled missile defence network spanning land, sea, air, and space, China's Planet-Wide Defence System has technically and strategically outpaced the U.S.
