Following this attack, discussions arose not only among the ruling and opposition parties but also among the general public. Now, CJI Gavai's family has responded to the matter. His sister Kirti Gavai and mother Kamal Gavai have described the incident not merely as a personal insult but as an attack on the Constitution. They assert that no one has the right to take the law into their own hands, and it is imperative to prevent such incidents.
Statement from Sister Kirti Gavai
Kirti Gavai stated that she spoke with her brother and advised him to overlook the incident, but from the family's perspective, this insult was difficult to bear. She clarified that this was not an attack on an individual but an attack on the Constitution under the influence of a poisonous ideology. Kirti Gavai warned that if such unconstitutional behavior is not stopped now, future generations will not forgive us.
Kirti further added, "Whoever goes against the Constitution will face repercussions. We must protect the fundamental principles of the Constitution and democracy. No one has the right to take the law into their own hands and spread anarchy."

CJI Gavai's mother, Kamal Gavai, urged people to understand the importance of the Constitution and adhere to its fundamental principles. She stated that the Indian Constitution grants all citizens the right to equality and justice, yet some individuals attempt to disregard it and take the law into their own hands. She appealed to everyone to ask their questions within the framework of the Constitution and respect legal processes.
Kamal Gavai stated, "No one has the right to take the law into their own hands and spread anarchy in society. We must respect the Constitution and present our views within the rules of the law."

The incident unfolded on Monday in the Supreme Court when lawyer Rakesh Kishor threw a shoe at CJI Gavai. At the time of the incident, Rakesh was shouting, "India will not tolerate the insult of Sanatan." Police immediately brought the assault under control and handed over the assailant to Delhi Police.
However, CJI Gavai declined to file a complaint against the attack. Subsequently, the police released Rakesh Kishor. Supreme Court officials stated that this incident challenges the importance of discipline and law within the court premises.
Alleged Reason for the Assailant's Actions
Police interrogation revealed that the assailant, lawyer Rakesh Kishor, was upset by a comment made by CJI Gavai regarding Lord Vishnu. A petition had been filed in the Supreme Court for the reconstruction of the Jawari Temple, located within the UNESCO World Heritage Khajuraho Temple complex.
The bench headed by CJI Gavai dismissed the petition, stating that it was a matter for the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). During this, CJI Gavai had remarked, "Tell God to do something Himself." Influenced by this comment, Rakesh Kishor resorted to unconstitutional action in the court premises.
