Congress leaders Kharge and Rahul Gandhi corner Modi government over US President Trump's claim of India-Pak ceasefire. Said - Center does not have the courage to call Trump a liar.
New Delhi: The politics of the country has heated up over US President Donald Trump's claim of mediating the India-Pakistan ceasefire. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and MP Rahul Gandhi have bly attacked the central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on this issue.
While speaking to the media on Wednesday, Kharge said that the central government does not even have the courage to clearly state that US President Donald Trump is lying. He questioned that if Trump is repeatedly saying that the ceasefire between India and Pakistan happened due to his mediation, then why is the government silent? Kharge alleged that 'something is fishy', which is why the central government is not giving a b response to Trump's statements.
Operation Sindoor and Trump's Controversial Claim
Talking about Operation Sindoor, it was a military action taken by India in response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on April 22. 26 civilians lost their lives in this attack. After this, India adopted an aggressive stance and retaliated against the terrorist hideouts.
However, US President Donald Trump claimed that he played a role in the ceasefire between India and Pakistan and, in a way, mediated. Trump made this statement on July 29 in a press conference that he gave while speaking to reporters on Air Force One.
Rahul Gandhi Directly Targets PM Modi
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, directly targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said that he is not able to muster the courage to call Trump a liar, because if he does so, the whole truth will come out.
Rahul said in a conversation with the media, "The Prime Minister is not able to say that Trump is lying. Everyone knows what happened, but they are not able to say anything. If he says something, Trump will expose everything."
Center's Clarification and Yet Confusion Persists
The central government has clarified many times earlier that the US or any other country has no role in the ongoing tension between India and Pakistan. But Trump is repeatedly saying in his statement that he has contributed to the ceasefire. Earlier also, Trump had talked about mediating on the Kashmir issue with India's consent, which India had clearly rejected.
Congress Questions Trump's Strategy
Congress leaders believe that Trump's statement is just a strategy to create diplomatic pressure, the purpose of which is to influence India during trade negotiations.
Rahul Gandhi said, "Trump is currently using the tension between India and Pakistan to create trade pressure. This is his old tactic. But the question is why is the government of India so silent?"
Questions Raised on the Timing of Trump's Statement as Well
Kharge said that he had already guessed that Trump would repeatedly make statements on this issue. Tauntingly, he said, "I had said yesterday itself that by the time my speech ends, this number will reach 30. That means Trump would have said this for the third time."
