India Reiterates Quad's Value, Remains Silent on Donald Trump's Potential Visit

India has shared important information regarding the potential visit of the US President to India and the Quad (Quadrilateral Security Dialogue). During the Ministry of External Affairs' weekly media briefing, when asked whether the Quad meeting would take place in the absence of US President Donald Trump or be rescheduled for next year during his India visit.

New Delhi: India has issued an important statement regarding the potential visit of US President Donald Trump to India and the Quad (QUAD – Quadrilateral Security Dialogue). The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated on Friday that Quad remains a ‘valuable platform’ for cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region. However, the ministry refrained from making any specific comments regarding the US President's India visit.

During the Ministry of External Affairs' weekly media briefing, when asked about upcoming Quad-related meetings and Trump's visit, spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that this grouping is viewed as an important platform for discussions on crucial issues among the four partner countries – the US, Australia, Japan, and India. He also clarified that Quad is continuously progressing, and recently, the India Maritime Week and the Quad Ports of the Future Conference were organized in Mumbai.

The Quad and India's Role

The Quad, also known as the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue, discusses several important issues such as regional security, maritime security, technological cooperation, and disaster management. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, India is set to host the Quad Summit in 2025. Randhir Jaiswal stated that Quad is making continuous progress and this platform promotes cooperation among the four countries in the Indo-Pacific region.

Jaiswal emphasized, “We consider Quad a valuable platform for cooperation and dialogue on strategic issues in the Indo-Pacific region. This grouping is continuously evolving, and it strengthens regional stability.

US President Trump's India Visit: Ministry Remains Silent

The Ministry of External Affairs clarified that they currently have no shareable information regarding US President Donald Trump's visit to India. Randhir Jaiswal stated that when the ministry has any update on this matter, the media and the public will be informed. However, earlier on Thursday, Trump had indicated in a media interaction that he might visit India next year. Describing Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a “good man” and a friend, he said that Prime Minister Modi wants him to visit India. 

Trump said, “Prime Minister Modi is my friend. We talk regularly. He wants me to come to India. I am considering it and will probably come. I had a fantastic trip there with Prime Minister Modi.
