Vasundhara Raje: In Kota, Rajasthan, cow protection organizations and Bajrang Dal activists stopped the convoy of former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on the Hanging Bridge and staged a protest. This incident occurred on December 28th. Cow protectors have been protesting for the past two weeks regarding the disposal of deceased cattle in the municipal corporation area. As part of this, on Sunday, they blocked Vasundhara Raje's convoy on the Hanging Bridge while demonstrating through a foot march, expressing their displeasure over the administration's attitude.
Background of the Protest
Cow protectors have been protesting for the past two weeks against the irregular disposal of deceased cattle in the municipal corporation area. They allege that contractors associated with the municipal corporation are dumping dead cows in open fields and vacant plots. There have also been instances of deceased cattle being dragged through the streets. Cow protectors say that this is not only inhumane but also disrespects religious beliefs.
Cow protectors also state that this kind of mismanagement is increasing the risk of stench and infection in the area. In protest, they organized a foot march on December 28th, the route of which also passed along the path of Vasundhara Raje's convoy.
Vasundhara Raje's Statement
After being surrounded by cow vigilantes on the Hanging Bridge, former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje said that she herself is a Sanatani and negligence by officials in the protection of the cow mother will not be tolerated at all. She said:
'Cow protectors are protesting and the officials are not listening. The public is agile, the officers are sluggish. It is strange that people have been raising their voices since December 14th, but the officers are not hearing them. This will not do at all.'
Vasundhara Raje immediately called Kota Range DIG Rajendra Goyal and SP Tejswini Gautam to the spot. She directed the officials to take strict action against the culprits and to complete the final rites of the cow mother by burying it properly in the soil. The officials assured that the guilty would be punished and necessary steps would be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
As the commotion increased, the police increased security in the area and maintained communication and control between the cow protectors and Vasundhara Raje's convoy. Only after about half an hour was the former CM able to continue on her way. The administration ensured that no damage or vandalism occurred.
