The Delhi government is set to launch a month-long special cleanliness drive in the capital starting August 1st. This information was provided by Delhi's Education and Urban Development Minister, Ashish Sood, on Friday after a high-level review meeting held at the Secretariat.
Campaign to Commence on Prime Minister's Call
Ashish Sood stated that this campaign is being launched keeping in mind Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Swachh Bharat Mission. He said that the central government has entrusted the state government with the responsibility of ensuring cleanliness and awareness about hygiene in Delhi. Sood described this campaign as a collective effort and said that its impact should be visible not just in reports but also on the ground.
Cleanliness Message to Reach Every Area
The meeting was attended by the Chief Secretary, along with senior officials from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), Health, Education, IT, Revenue Department, and all districts. The Minister directed all officials to accelerate the cleanliness awareness campaign in unauthorized colonies, slums, and underdeveloped areas so that the campaign's impact can reach every corner of the capital. He also urged the involvement of RWAs and local communities to inspire them to clean their neighborhoods.
Schools and Offices Will Also Play a Key Role
Ashish Sood instructed the Education Secretary to involve both government and private schools in the campaign. He said that students should be prepared as "cleanliness ambassadors" who not only raise awareness about hygiene in schools but also in their homes and among the people around them. The Minister informed that in the first two days of the campaign, all government offices will have to compulsorily conduct cleanliness activities in their premises.
In addition, the Urban Development Department and MCD have also been directed to launch a special portal. Through this portal, citizens and RWAs will not only be able to register but also upload pictures of the cleaned areas, which will ensure transparency in monitoring and implementation.
